Cryptozoology and Arguing from Silence

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen This article was inspired while I was writing an introduction to a post about wolverines . At first, it was going to be a part of the introduction, but it needed its own place. It is expanded from that intended introduction. Wolverines are known to mostly live in the far north, but a few live further south.  Captain Meriwether Lewis saw on in 1806 and referred to it as a "tyger cat," as it was unknown to white folks. Indeed, when the first specimen of a platypus was sent from 'Straya to England, the recipients thought it was a prank. Public domain image from the National Park Service, modified at FotoSketcher I am  doing a backward approach to cryptozoology , which is a search for animals that are hidden or extinct. I spent my first forty years in Michigan, which is called the Wolverine State even though it apparently never had a large number of them. Did they ever exist there? All we have are eyewitness accounts and the fact that there are others

The Devious Motte-and-Bailey Fallacy

Image
Way back in 1066 AD, William the First took a notion to extend his power from Normandy and conquer England. People who have been invaded are not too fond of the idea. Bill knew this, and acted quickly to keep control, so he built a passel of strongholds. These castles could be built rather quickly with available wood. (Later, castles would be made of stone.) The wide area that was protected which was known as the bailey . The nearby hill, existing or manufactured, had the top leveled off for the greater stronghold, the motte . This is where the keep , often a tower, was built. Windsor Castle with motte and bailey, Flickr / Mike McBey ( CC BY 2.0 ) The basic idea of a motte and bailey was successful , since attackers would have to get through the outer defenses first, then they would have to fight the greater defenses going uphill. When the attack was thwarted or abandoned, the people would leave the motte and return to bailey life. This layout has been applied to a particularly deviou

Atheists Must Believe Antiscience

Image
Those of us who have been riding the Apologetics Trail for some amount of time know that professing atheists (Rom. 1:18-23) on the internet are, for the most part, weak thinkers. While some may have a modicum of skill at philosophy, most make serious logical and philosophical errors. For example, demanding scientific proof that God exists is a category error , because God is not a material object. We also see ridiculous professing Christians used as examples to say that all religion is evil, which is a hasty generalization . (You can see more of the common informal logical fallacies that misotheists use on the logic lessons page .) Worse, though, is that atheists are forced to believe antiscience because of their worldview. Darwin antiscience, modified from a Pixnio image Examples of why molecules-to-misotheist evolution is unscientific are in many places, including Piltdown Superman  and this weblog. Evolution is foundational to their belief system. (Yeah, I know, they "lack bel

Logical Thinking and the Lack Thereof

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  This article will be linked in another about how misotheists and evolutionists try to put Christians and creationists on the defensive, but is a stand-alone example of how logical thinking is useful in daily life. Really. It's not just for apologetics, science, and academia. While social media is a hotbed of irrationality, I challenged someone to see what would happen. It paid off. San Francisco at night image credit: Unsplash / Trevor Wilson The HBO documentary Allen v Farrow  was trending on Twitter. (I don't have or want HBO.) While I liked a few of Woody Allen's movies and a couple of his books long ago, I really have no interest in the subject. Justice may be done and the truth may come out now, but there is no doubt that when he stands before the Creator in judgment, there will be righteous judgment with no appeal. I noticed a comment by Paul Haynes . (I learned later that he is a co-producer of another HBO documentary that I did not watch call

Another Wicked Atheist Meme Refuted

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Atheists are mighty fond of making "memes" to ridicule Christians and biblical creationists, receiving praise from their pestiferous comrades. While claiming to believe in reason, these things are usually straw men. Add to this the extrapolation fallacy , and thinking people should reject these out of hand. Modified angry monkey image from Freeimages by  Nico van Geldere The extrapolation fallacy is also prominent among advocates of fish-to-fool evolution (see " The Extrapolation Fallacy in Evolutionary Storytelling "). Atheopaths not only make "memes" that can be refuted , but they use the extrapolation fallacy in posts on their social media. The exception is used as the rule. For example, there are instances of when someone in a religious cult refuses a vaccination or other medical treatment for a child who tragically dies. This means all "religion" is bad according to such posts. No, it means there is somethin

Eviscerating Atheopathic Objections Again

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Modified 4 July 2022 In previous years, I had a stalker who was a gold mine for bigotry and logical fallacies. Since he was repetitious and desperate for attention, I decided to instead utilize the abundant resources on teh interwebs. This next furious atheist is another clinquant example of what atheism does to the mind. Background image credit before modification: Supposed dark matter ring in galaxy cluster Cl 0024+17 Hubblesite (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) This article is going to be a bit tricky to write, but I reckon that I can skip some material and let you catch on, plus give you relevant links. Let me start with some background. A troll Page shares material from Christians and biblical creationists for the purposes of ridicule. I have never seen a cogent argument from the owner or from his adoring fans. Lots of mockery, straw man arguments, the genetic fallacy, and other typical fare from atheopaths, sure. Also, when he is

Amazing Atheist — A Video by Ray Comfort

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Ray Comfort has been proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ for many years, and he has made a prairie schooner-full of videos of various lengths under the banner of Living Waters . Atheists like these have a great time ridiculing and misrepresenting him, but he still preaches the gospel with love and without compromise. Screenshot from the title section of Amazing Atheist While many professing atheists tend to ridicule Ray's videos, some have actually watched them. He had video interviews with two of them. John has been vile and hateful, and Justin expresses disagreement but was pleasant. In the interview, both were civil and actually let him speak. Justin is one of the few atheists I've seen that can be personable, and I think I could have a discussion with him. One of them said that a turning point for him was that he was told to believe literally everything in the Bible. Define "literally". No rational Christian believes all of th

COVID-19 Studies Falsely So Called

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen First, an explanation of the title. It is based on 1 Tim. 6:20 KJV, which modern versions translate science as knowledge (γνῶσις, gnosis ). If I had started writing a book listing the parallels between atheistic science attitudes and political discussions even in the past, say, five years, it could only be sold as an eBook because, like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it would require several large buildings to house it. Since I didn't and I don't have the travel capabilities of a Time Lord and go back in time to start over, I will have to break things up into smaller pieces. In this case, the subject is about scientific studies. Public domain image, I think it is from the CDC , who is not endorsing the contents on this site When dealing with obstreperous atheopaths and other anti-creationists, Christians and creationists are often challenged with demands for evidence of our claims. That goes with the territory. We provide links to

COVID-19, Up Jumps Incendiary Darwinist Opportunism

Image
Leftist politicians are using the COVID-19 virus situation as a means to gain power, and the Darwin death cult is not letting the crisis go to waste. Not only are evolutionists falsely claiming that the virus is evidence of evolution , but fake science is actually making things worse. Scientists are working on trying to understand how this unique virus operates ( this includes creation scientists ), and the capitalization efforts of evolutionists is the equivalent of flinging mud on the wall, placing a frame over the splatters, then calling it artwork.  Using circular reasoning by assuming evolution to prove evolution, some jaspers are saying that problems with social distancing are because of our relationship to primates. The American "stimulus" package was a missed opportunity to gain money for global warming. Others want the virus to help destroy the family. Close churches but call the murders of unborn children "essential services". When society turns i

More Atheistic Propaganda from Dawkins

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Seems that Dr. Clinton Richard Dawkins got himself another atheopathy book on the market, which got the hands at the Darwin Ranch on the prod. Rusty Swingset ordered overtime at the propaganda mill with everybody on standby, and he went with another publisher. Left image credit: Wikimedia Commons / David Shankbone ( CC by 3.0 ) Right image credit: Imgflip and many other places on teh interweb In a podcast of The Briefing by Dr. Richard Albert Mohler, we learned that Dawkins is inadvertently proving God right again (Romans 1:18-23) . If you study on it a spell, you'll see that words like should, ought, and the like imply ethical and moral claims . According to atheism and evolutionism, we are just rearranged pond slime reacting to our chemical impulses. He has no right to criticize Christians or creationists because, in his fundamentally flawed worldview, we are born this way and cannot help it . Actually, his rants do not contain valid logic. He

Celebrity Fight Challenge and Logic

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen A passel of people are bemused by the challenge made by singer Justin Bieber to actor Tom Cruise. He wants a fight . Not a barroom brawl, but a formal Ultimate Fighting Championship mixed martial arts event. Bieber taunted that if Cruise ignores the challenge, he is a coward. Shane Carwin and Junior Dos Santos facing off at UFC 131 Credit: Wikimedia Commons / Bad intentionz ( CC by-SA 3.0 ) Normally, my response would be, "That's silly. How long until it's time to clock out?" (In fact, I had to look up UFC, and I'm not sure I've ever heard a Bieber song. Saw a few movies with Cruise, though. Is it true that he does most of his own stunts?) What got my attention is the claim that if Tom ignored Justin's challenge, then Tom is a coward. via GIPHY This is the kind of thing that other Christians and biblical creationists have to deal with frequently. We are bushwhacked with the obligatory ad hominems as well as straw
